Nowadays not only supplies needed by the mountain refuges, but also the material for their construction and maintenance is guaranteed by helicopter. In short, everything comes down from the sky. When helicopters did not exist, or were not used for this purpose, everything had to be transported on foot, that is by porters who climbed steep slopes and scaled walls with up to 50 and 100 kilos on their backs. They were the sherpas of the Alps, strong men used to hard work. Some survivors of this practice recall their efforts when they were young and the author of the film interviews them and intercalates personal memories with archival photos that are more eloquent than words. The film pays a simple and sincere tribute to these modest, but sturdy and upright men.
