A five-part documentary of a journey along the Amazon from the source to the mouth. The Amazon: a magical name which gives flight to the imagination. Usually it is associated with the Amazon plains of the rain forests, but before the water of the largest river in the world reaches them, it has already covered a long course: from the Peruvian Andes, at an altitude of over 5000 m, it has poured into deep gullies in a tumultuous descent crossing all the climatic zones and regions still unexplored by human beings. Nevertheless, the uniqueness of this river consists not only in its size, but also in the variety of the populations and cultures living along its banks. In the first part of the documentary the spectator witnesses the first part of a journey along the Amazon which, close to the source, 5200 metres high, is only a streamlet. The film explores the spiritual world and life of the populations of the Andes, some of whom have never seen a boat before.
