Gelek, a Bon monk, accompanied by an American photographer, undertakes a journey from Katmandu to discover the ancient kingdom of Zhang Zhung where the Bon religion flourished centuries ago. In their search for mythical and spiritual places, they travel to the shadows of Mount Kailash in far Western Tibet. On the way they meet oracles, shaman priests and other characters. As they travel through the stakly beautiful landscape of Nepal and Tibet, their journey begin to shed light on a religion that is probably older than Tibetan Buddhism, though it is largely unknown and neglected. The film describes the pilgrimage where both the spiritual and temporal realms are fluid realities and abstacles taht constantly need to be overcome.
