Mosku is able to cope in the wilderness having been taught by his father at a very young age. mosku is in charge of the provisions stored on a floating raft near the hindeout thieves, led by Rupipää, the raft and try to steal the food. A bitter argument ensues between Mosku and Rupipää, the prelude of many other clashes. Reindeer thefts are becoming alarmingly common at this time and so the villagers decide to appoint voluntary groups to patrol the borderlands. However, only Mosku volunteers for the job.
