Somewhere in the Tyrol Alps, a meteorite crashes into a glacier, awakening a boy from the Neanderthal era who had remained frozen in perpetual ice for a thousand years. His name is Bataa. He soon meets Sophie, a young girl who has fled from the mountain hut where she spends holidays with her family. In the beginning it seems that the shock and communication barriers are too high to be overcome, but then the two youngsters discover they have something deep in common. Sophie lost her mother and cannot accept her new family, whereas Bataa feels abandoned and his only desire is to reunite with his family. They both understand each other’s needs and little by little they become special friends. Pursued by the scientists who want to capture him, Bataa flees thanks to Sophie’s help. She wants to take him with her to her valley, but the closer the two friends get to modern civilization, the worse Bataa feels. Sophie realises that Bataa cannot live in the present world and they both engage in a struggle against time.
