Time is running out for vast swaths of the Rocky Mountain West as the Bush and Cheney Administration promotes the biggest public land grab in American history. The oil and gas industry has already leased more than 30 million acres of federal land, an area greater than 15 Yellowstone Parks, and industry is moving aggressively to lease millions more before the end of Bush’s term. The drilling blitz threatens some of America’s last, wildest lands: Wyoming’s Red Desert, Montana’s Rocky Mountain Front, Colorado’s Roan Plateau, Utah’s canyon country and New Mexico’s Valle Vidal. Westerners who have been on the land for generations decry the dramatic changes to the landscape and foment a backlash. The film asks, who is running U.S.A. public lands - the American people or the oil and gas industry.
