The new German law on family reunification requires the wives of emigrants in Germany to learn German. The women in Sanliurfa, in Turkey, attend a language course at the village school for a few months, in order to request a visa and thus have the right to join their spouses. However, many of them do not know much about the country in which they will live, nor paradoxically even about their own husbands. Furthermore, for many of them the school is a place without significance, because they were prevented by their families from attending it. Thus they find themselves in an ambiguous situation, confused by the mixture of Turkish, German and their native language Kurdish.
