Thirteen women recount the story of the Manifattura Tabacchi works in Rovereto from the 1940s until closure in 2008, the factory moving from the production of cigars to the increasingly mechanised manufacture of cigarettes. The Manifattura had always been a factory where most of the employees were women, recruited both for their manual skills and because of the low cost of their labour. Over the years working conditions improved and the factory also reflected the major social and cultural transformation taking place in our society, above all in terms of the role of women. This is a story handed down through stories, photographs and the building itself, still impregnated with the smell of tobacco.
