A great in-between land, a jetty stretching out into the Mediterranean, where the traditional juxtaposition between North and South dematerialises, revealing an archipelago in which the islands are the inland areas of Italy. Neither metropolitan areas nor suburbs, these spaces represent 60% of the country. The film recounts the journey of architect Mario Cucinella through inland areas of Italy to rediscover the customs and traditions created during the history of this country over thousands of years.

Marcello Pastonesi is a documentary filmmaker and photographer. He studied politics and history of international relations at the University of Genoa, journalism at the London School of Journalism and geopolitics at ISPI, Istituto per gli Studi di Politica Internazionale in Milano. He focuses his work on social issues and foreign affairs.

Photographer and architect born in London, his photography has documented the world of work across Europe and has been exhibited at the Triennale di Milano.
